He leads the Exotic Quantum Matter group (EQM) which explores the physics of complex quantum systems and applications for quantum simulation, quantum sensing and quantum computing. Shannon studied physics and completed his PhD at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne in 2007, followed by a Marie Curie postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Amsterdam. In 2010, he moved to the University of Heidelberg in Germany where he started his own research group and advanced quantum physics laboratory thanks to a prestigious Emmy Noether grant from the German Research Foundation (DFG). He is strongly involved in several major research and training programmes, including the International Graduate School and Interdisciplinary Thematic Institute in “Quantum Science and Nanomaterials” (QMat), EU doctoral programmes MOQS and QUSTEC, and the new public infrastructure for quantum computing aQCess.

Keywords: quantum simulation, non-equilibrium physics, complex systems, Rydberg atoms, quantum technology

Short CV

Currently

Full professor (Professeur des Universités, PU1), University of Strasbourg,
France, and Director of the Exotic Quantum Matter group at the European Center
for Quantum Sciences (CESQ) and ISIS (UMR7006).
Current group: 1 permanent researcher (CNRS), 1 postdoc, and 3 PhD

2017 – 2018

Professeur associé, IPCMS (UMR7504), University of Strasbourg & CNRS

2013 – 2017

Emmy Noether group leader.
